"YOU ARE A BADASS IS THE SELF-HELP BOOK FOR PEOPLE WHO DESPERATELY WANT TO IMPROVE THEIR LIVES BUT DON'T WANT TO GET BUSTED DOING IT."
Um... okay, Coelho!
If you want to change your life just by believing you can do it, this books is for you. Unfortunately, I cannot get by the entire if-you-want-something-the-universe-will-conspire conspiracy. In this book, Jen Sincero talks about some SOURCE ENERGY and what the Universe wants for us, which was... well, it was something else. Unlike other non-fiction books, which give you a step by step guide to improve yourself and your life, YOU ARE A BADASS focuses on what you don't have to do. You don't have to work hard, for instance. You can just rush everything once the deadline approaches, just like the author admittedly did with this book.
It was flooded with vague spiritual stuff and unnecessary swearing and flexing, as well as very questioning pieces of advice. At some point, she encourages her readers to go into debt to manifest their reality. She explains how she bought a car she couldn't afford at the time, and everything turned out fine. As the saying goes, "Drive a car for the job you want, not the job you have." Right? The author's perspective is incredibly privileged.
Another one of her advices was something along the lines: "If you're depressed, just act like someone who isn't depressed."
While I do believe positive thinking is great, this book isn't the first to suggest it. And I also believe you cannot manifest anything just through thinking. The book even explains that if you send out positive energy, the universe will bring back positive energy as well (whatever that means). I do believe that it takes real hard work to achieve anything in life, especially since most of us don't have a safety net.
The author seems out of touch, the book is potentially triggering, and I would not recommend it.
I'm usually very lenient when it comes to books. I forgive almost anything. There have been very few books I find difficult to review positively. YOU ARE A BADASS is one of them. I read this book a long time ago and have been trying to write this review for over a year. Have you read this book? Do you agree with my review? I'd like to know your take on it.
