Horror Book Quotes

I'm a huge fan of the horror genre. Although I do have limits when reading horror (extreme horror and excessive, unnecessary gore is not my type), I enjoy reading these short stories and novels. Horror is my go-to genre always. So I thought I could sit down and put together a list of quotes that come solely from horror books. Enjoy!

1. H.P. Lovecraft, The Outsider

“I know always that I am an outsider; a stranger in this century and among those who are still men.”

2. Cormac McCarthy, Blood Meridian, or the Evening Redness in the West

“Whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent.”

3. Mary Shelley, Frankenstein

“There is something at work in my soul, which I do not understand.”

4. Stephen King, It

“Eddie discovered one of his childhood's great truths. Grownups are the real monsters, he thought.”

5. Stephen King, The Shining

“Wendy? Darling? Light, of my life. I'm not gonna hurt ya. I'm just going to bash your brains in.”

6. Bram Stoker, Dracula

“Even if she be not harmed, her heart may fail her in so much and so many horrors; and hereafter she may suffer--both in waking, from her nerves, and in sleep, from her dreams.”

7. Ryan Mecum, Zombie Haiku: Good Poetry for Your...Brains

“Blood is really warm,

it's like drinking hot chocolate

but with more screaming.”

8. Robert Bloch, Psycho

“I think perhaps all of us go a little crazy at times.”

9. Mark Lawrence, Prince of Thorns

“I’ll tell you now. That silence almost beat me. It’s the silence that scares me. It’s the blank page on which I can write my own fears. The spirits of the dead have nothing on it. The dead one tried to show me hell, but it was a pale imitation of the horror I can paint on the darkness in a quiet moment.”
